PRIME MINISTER HONOURS OUTSTANDING CANADIAN TEACHERS
William (Bill) Henderson, technology advisor to The Pacific Rim Group and its clients over the past several years, has received the 1997 Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence. These annual awards recognize the achievements of elementary and secondary school teachers who are leading the way in preparing their students for the new, knowledge-based economy. A total of 72 teachers were selected from almost 300 nominations.
Bill, Head of Technology Education at Robert Bateman Secondary School in Abbotsford, has three attributes of a great teacher: vision -- he has the ability to foresee and take advantage of advances in technology and teaching strategies; commitment -- he is intent on helping his students develop to their fullest potential, and on contributing to the development of technology education province-wide; and a love of learning -- he regularly upgrades his skills and recently received his Masters Degree in Education.
Congratulations Bill, for your hard work and dedication.
Could Your Company Benefit From A
"Re-Invoicing" Arrangement?
Do you source products or services in one country and import them into another? If so, there may be many practical business reasons for establishing an overseas purchasing or procurement office.
In addition to the many sound business benefits of setting up such an office, there are also potential tax savings to be achieved by using a low tax jurisdiction such as Hong Kong to locate this establishment. It may be as simple as setting up a Hong Kong company that uses its expertise in negotiating and purchasing, to act as an intermediary between your suppliers and your home base company. The Hong Kong company can either purchase and resell - "re-invoice" - the goods or services to your home base company, or earn negotiating fees / commissions.
Careful planning and expert tax advice is of course required to ensure you do not run afoul of tax authorities. Pacific Rim can provide the expert advice you need to determine the benefits of, and to establish a "re-invoicing" arrangement for your company.
For additional information on off-shore incorporations or advice on re-invoicing, call Craig Lindsay in Vancouver at (604) 692-8987 or John Henderson in Hong Kong at (852) 2524-6078.

USERWARE® Tip Of The Month
PRINT BEFORE YOU REPLY
Research has shown that we are more likely to react emotionally to e-mail messages that we read on the screen, as screens tend to stimulate the right side of the brain. On the other hand, we react more rationally to printed messages.
Therefore, experts advise that it is a good idea to print and read e-mails of a sensitive/controversial nature prior to replying. This will serve to reduce the likelihood of a knee-jerk reaction to what we may perceive as provocative or sensitive e-mails.
